Barbiturates, often referred to as “downers” gained in popularity in the 70’s because of the publicity that surrounded musicians and movie stars who made these drugs part of their daily diet.
The drug induces sleep and when it is combined with alcohol, it
can be deadly. Those who abuse Barbiturates are likely looking for mild
sedation, to a deep sleep, which can lead to a coma. The drug is used
in a wide capacity within hospitals with one of the more common uses to
control seizure disorders.
The medication is also used to effectively
treat people with Insomnia and when the drug is not abused, shows great
success.
