Not to be admired, but you have to hand it to the Heroin and Opium addicts, they are tenacious.
The Heroin addict may inject Heroin up to four times per day. The abuser/user of Heroin or Opium, will inject the drug, sniff it, and smoke it or anything they can do to get high on it.  Opium is the fluid that is contained in the unripe seed pod of the opium poppy.

It is grown in abundance in Afghanistan. Heroin is a highly addictive opiate drug which is processed from morphine. This is almost as bad as it gets. The only drug that is doing significantly more damage nation wide is Methamphetamine.

My daughter is a heroin addict...              Reply to this Comment
What can I do after she's been in detox 3 times. I've detoxed her 2 times. She's been in rehab 3 times with 1 complete session. I've read about saboxone, sebutex, and another opiate blocker which melts under your tongue. She agrees to do this along with counceling and meetings. How do we go about it???? I'm so afraid for her. She is only 19 years old and we've been going through this for 2 years. I'm at a loss.

cindy, you can't blame yourself. It is totally up to your daughter, does she really want it,if she does there is no stopping her on a road to recovery.I have been shooting dope for over 10 yrs.The only thing to keep me clean was a desire to do so.The second my faith in sobriety failed I was off to the junk. She will have to have a life long commitment to sobriety, addiction lay in wait forever. You never graduate, take it one day at a time.Subutex is a great start, meth is too addictive.Your daughter also has a loving family, don't give up.

My daughter is an heroin and crack addict              Reply to this Comment
Kristen...although I can totally identify with what you say about an addict having to quit for themselves, I just can't accept it as a parent. There must be something that I can do! I heard about a place in Brazil that has a high success rate and I am going to look into it. How can a parent just sit by and watch their precious gift destroy themselves???? I don't mean to say that you are wrong...in fact, you are too right. But, it is unacceptable and I can't just let it happen??? I need help from someone! There has to be a way. I am close to my daughter, as close as I possibly can be. She is in L.A. and I am in Florida. Not, much time can be spent with her, obviously. I tell her all the time that I love her and I don't judge her, I just try to laugh and remember good times. And the thought of locking her up kills me. I don't want her to feel like a caged animal. There are lots of parents that would say that I am wrong and that locking her up would save her life. But, I disagree. What is the difference between these two deaths? What is the difference between, being locked up and detached from the world and living in a the confines of walls and taking pills at schedules times and killing yourself with drugs? Isn't it about your choices? What choice do you have when you're locked up and your whole life is dictated by people in white jackets and your scheduled medication? I just want something that will work for my daughter. I have much respect for those who have weathered this disease and are making surviving day by day. What is that made them want to get better? And how can I get some of that for my precious Krystal? If anyone out there can help me, please reply to this post. If just to talk, I would really appreciate it. I can't be the only one who is dying inside watching their baby destroy themselves.

HEROIN ADDICTION              Reply to this Comment
Susan: Your daughter has to change her "habits" if she is to have a chance to quit the heroin. By habits I mean her friends, surroundings, and daily routines. She will NEVER stop using this drug if she doesn't leave her old habitats. L.A. is probably the worst place for her to be. Couldn't you get her down to Fl with you? Believe me, that in itself would help greatly to stop her. If she is actually addicted (physically) to heroin you could quite easily (and economically- about $500) put her through a rapid (2-4 weeks) seboxin detoxification. I hope this helps you as I have two teenage children of my own and my heart goes out to you.

heroin detox              Reply to this Comment
from what I am reading, and from what I have just experienced this past 1 1/2 yrs with my niece, it appears like it is almost impossible for these users to get off of herion, and it seems like they all develope the same traits, lieing, stealing, losing everything, my niece lost everything!!!sheis 29, married, with a baby, of course the husband has the baby now, because they are going through a divorce, she does not even have a checking account any longer, and all her jewlery is gone, the girl is down to skin, and bones, this is the saddest thing I have ever gone through in my life, I am afraid this girl is going to die, we had an intervention last week, she has been in detox now for 5 days, and is releasing herself in 2 more days, she thinks she has satisfied us, she will not go into a rehab, so what do we do? sit back, and watch, and wait for her to start using again? actually we cannot watch, because she pushes us all out of her life, she will cause what ever turmoil between family members as well, anything to make everyone go-away, this addiction all started from percocets, to oxycontin, than to cocaine, than to heroin, and cocaine, I am praying she sticks to not using, but I think it is safe to say if she does not go into a in patient program, immediately, we are fighting a losing battle, she has caused so much pain in our family, literally has stopped our life's, rightnow I am working on detaching from her, how much pain can a family take?

    addictions              Reply to this Comment
I can truley tell you this,I have been an addict for over 18 years. It started with perscription drugs.I then went to a methadone treatment facality.Been there for 14 years.I will say that it has its ups and downs, mostly downs. I have tried to get off of methadone for years unsucessfully.Because it is opium based I became addicted to it. I now find my addiction to the needle the worst of all. Unfortuntely methdone is injectble. There isnt anything to stop this other than pure will and God.When things go well for me I find it so easy to turn to God and the normal route of taking methadone. However things dont often go well.It is a struggle, and I think of trying suboxone often .However the cost is another story.I work hard on my recovery today.I see a therapist 2 times week, plus I counsel once a week.I also go to meetings. At least once a week.I know there is allot of contraversy over methadone users going to meetings, however I totally feel I have earned my seat.I wish all well in there recovery, but you have to do it for you. Good Luck

    recovery              Reply to this Comment
My son is in recovery from Oxi. He is 23 years old and lives in another state but we are close and we talk every day. Two years ago I found out from his father and brother he had been using. He did go to a detox inpatient program and later came to live with me. He only stayed for about a month with out going into any treatment or meetings. He just wanted to get home and did not want to use the time or distance from his friends to work toward recovery. Anyway, I am wanting to know from someone the following... Although he was totally different when he was using Oxi and I did know something was wrong. He since has been his normal self for quite a while ( over 1 yr ) He did start selling oxi for a while and although he would not admit it then we all had the hunch he was selling. And even then he did not seem to act like he was using. As a matter of fact he tells me now he has been on Seboxin. He is still hanging with the same crowd who I have no and have spoken to and they are all going to meetings. My question ...is it possible that because they are all close and grew up together that they can use each other as a support team to help each other stay off the oxy or is it more likly that if someone is weak the others will fall?

To heroin addicts' parents              Reply to this Comment
Go to Al-anon. Learn what to do over there. No one can help your children, but the Higher Power working through people. But your children have to find the way to that Power themselves.

parenting and heroin use              Reply to this Comment
I'm interested to know what people's thoughts are on parenting and heroin use. I am studying social work in Scotland and want to look into this, as its a big topic here. Has anyone experience of this themselves or know anyone else who is a parent using heroin? How do you feel heroin affects parenting? What kind of support do you feel would be helpful for parents who use heroin?

I need Seboxin              Reply to this Comment
I really need help on finding this..it's just like the lady Cindy said, it's the little orange pill with the cross, i need to know who i can talk to about this, and where i can find this....long story short, my boyfriend is addict to a narcotic and this is the only thing that will help him for what i've been reading about it, I need more information and someone for him to talk to

    Shannon-Suboxone              Reply to this Comment
Your boyfriend has to go to an addiction psychiatrist- they can prescribe Suboxone to him. Then of course he will have to go to treatment, either an inpatient or intensive outpatient program. He should also go to NA or AA meetings regularly. Addiction can not be overcome with just a pill, there are many other contributing factors to recovery.

My mom is killing herself              Reply to this Comment
a while ago my mom got mixed with the wrong crowd and ended up as a herion addict. I gave her all my love and support. She met this guy a short time after and moved away with him. I talk to her alot, in my heart i know shes still using. I guess i just want to believe her. This guy is controlling her life and there is nothing i can do. She stopped talking to my whole family including myself. I no longer no what to do about the situation. She is killing herself. She is perscribed suboxin but i think she might be selling them for her addiction she is lying to me. How can i get him away from her how can i help. She doesn't seem to care about anything anymore. She does nothing produtive with her life. In reallity she's not living life.
