People addicted to drugs are most likely referred for therapy.
There are many types of therapy that are available such as cognitive therapy, behavioral therapy, and psychotherapy.

Cognitive therapy involves therapy that is more concerned with how a person's thoughts can influence how they feel. This involves helping people to think more positively, and decreasing the stress that accompanies day-to-day problems.

This is especially helpful in people who suffer from low self-esteem or depression and turn to drugs for comfort.

Behavioral therapy is used more often than cognitive therapy in the treatment of addictions because it involves having the person identify that their behavior is causing the problem and developing short and long term goals to solve this problem.

Psychotherapy is much more concerned with a combination of how a person's thoughts and behavior can lead to a problem and by correcting this, the problem such as the addiction can be abolished.

The type of therapy that would be prescribed for an addict would depend on the underlying problems the person is facing.

Please help me break it off with my psychotherapist. I realized I might have an addiction problem to psychotheraphy. You see, every time I had a problem I felt I couldn't solve on my own I sought the help of a shrink. Most of the time my sessions ended in months, but this one has got me hangin' for years and won't let me go. I want to break it off but find myself going back. What's more my insurance keeps paying this quack! I've tried so hard to break it off and told him I want to quit my therapy but at the end of the session he just says ok, see you next week, 1 pm, ok...and I say...um...sigh...ok doc. And I hate him! I hate him!

Lordy, when I read these sad epics I can cry. I'm almost 60 and never smoked, drank or took drugs. I've never had any addictions. You know why...one time my dad caught me with a ciggeret when I was a teenager and he beat the crap outta me.That was the first and last time I smoked and its good thing cause I developed asthma anyway. With smoking I would have emphysema or cancer by now. All these things were forbidden in my house. We had to go to church every day and live clean and sober. So you folks just put the bottle down and pick up the Bible for a change. You don't need booze, drugs, etc. to get you through. Stop whining. And if you see your kids starting with drugs or whatever you got to take the rod to them before things get outta hand. Yes sir, the only problem I have is nail biting, been trying to quit for 50 something years, I'll get it licked someday.
