There are many types of therapy that are available such as cognitive therapy, behavioral therapy, and psychotherapy.
Cognitive therapy involves therapy that is more concerned with how a
person's thoughts can influence how they feel. This involves helping
people to think more positively, and decreasing the stress that
accompanies day-to-day problems.
This is especially helpful in people
who suffer from low self-esteem or depression and turn to drugs for
comfort.
Behavioral therapy is used more often than cognitive therapy in the
treatment of addictions because it involves having the person identify
that their behavior is causing the problem and developing short and
long term goals to solve this problem.
Psychotherapy is much more concerned with a combination of how a
person's thoughts and behavior can lead to a problem and by correcting
this, the problem such as the addiction can be abolished.
The type of therapy that would be prescribed for an addict would depend on the underlying problems the person is facing.
