Antisocial personality disorder is a frightening condition in which the patient has no regard for social norms and law. Often, the sufferer will be unable to feel empathy and may become aggressive toward people and may even go as far as to derive pleasure from hurting them.
True sufferers of this personality disorder do
not seem to experience human emotions. They cannot understand the
suffering of others or give much thought to law and social structures.
This is why most people with this condition will find themselves
incarcerated. Although it is not set in stone that people with
antisocial personality disorder will become criminals, lack of regard
for rules and regulations make this a very real likelihood.
While it is very difficult to spot this personality disorder during a
casual encounter, people who get close to psychopaths will be able to
see the signs and symptoms. You see, people with this disorder are very
good at covering it up and may even go as far as to mimic human
emotions to seem mentally healthy. People with antisocial personality
disorder have at least three of the following symptoms:
Repeated arrests for failure to follow the law.
Lying, deceitfulness, using aliases, or conning others.
Impulsiveness.
Aggressiveness and irritability often resulting in numerous physical altercations.Disregard for safety.
Failure to maintain employment or keep financial obligations.
Lack of remorse.
Tendency to blame others for their conflicts.
Inability to maintain lasting relationships.
Unconcern for feelings of others and lack of guilt.
Unable to learn from past experiences and punishment.
Antisocial personality disorder usually becomes evident before the age
of 15. Warning signs during a young age may include pyromania, cruelty
to animals and longer than normal bedwetting. Although these signs do
not always point toward this personality disorder, psychiatrists use
these three symptoms for early diagnosis of the disorder.
