I started cutting myself at the age of 13,but was burning my self with irons at the age or 9 after I told my mom that I was raped by my father and she didnt believe me.I am now 18 and I still do it but Ive gotten worse even though I dont cut as much as I used to when I do cut I cut twice as much because Ive became acustom to the pain and cant feel it any more,so I use dull objects like a pen or something.I have recently started to use pills. Here is my email address incoherentgirl666@hotmail.com

The first thing is to find a trauma therapist, which is challenging, but can be done via isst-d.org or sidran.org, trustworthy, established organizations that exist to serve traumatized people. You're not crazy and you're not bad, and while meds may help alleviate some stuff, which is good, you need appropriate trauma care, even if it seems like you've put it "behind " you. Check out symptoms of dissociation or ptsd on various sites. I'll bet you'll find it surprising. But don't get scared, get going! You can do this. You can. Get a therapist trained in this kind of care, and keep looking until you do. It takes commitment on your part (and the counselor's), but the results are worth it. It is the only way I got well, and am now in school to get my masters' in counseling trauma survivors. No more nightmares, no more self-harm, no more losing time... All the best to you, Elizabeth

I am 30 years old and just started cutting. I have been sexually abused, shot in the head, beaten by my husband and had my heart broke more than I can imagine. I think I cut to have some sort of control over a life that has spun out of control. I was diagnosed bipolr and borderline personality as well as PTSD. I want to stop cutting. I hate it and it scares my little girl.

I started cutting my arms when I was 30 yr. old. When you go to a hosp. to try and get care, many Drs. want to put you in a state hosp. They feel like you are out of control, and they don't want to deal with it. If you can get into the Sidran Institute, you will be helped. They won't turn you away, and they won't bully you. Try and get the quarterly The Cutting Edge. The person who writes it was a cutter. Now she writes the paper, and is also apart of the Sidran Inst. Good Luck to you.
