I just stumbled upon this site & read thru these painful comments. I can certainly feel the anguish all of you are experiencing. I am a recovering addict with about 7 yrs clean. I started with meth and eventually used everything over the yrs. It took me decades to find my way out, but THERE IS A WAY OUT! Today I speak at schools around the state about drug abuse. I only wish some loved one had set up an intervention for me. But that was unheard of yrs ago. The point I'm making is that, you don't have to wait for someone to hit a bottom. That's a fallacy. Consider finding a counselor to help you do an intervention. INTERVENE NOW! And if it's you that is using, the time is now. Whatever excuse you are using is only you tricking yourself into continuing on to the bitter end. And trust me, the end can be very bitter. Whenever you think it cannot get any worse, it will get worse. The time is NOW. Peace B 2 U, Logan

Is it wrong?              Reply to this Comment
For the past 6 years I have been "addicted" to marijuana. I don't smoke weed to feel cool or to impress my friends. I smoke weed to calm my nerves, relax, and not be in mental anguish. My only problem is I smoke way entirely too much weed. I know I would be just fine if I weened myself down to a couple hits a week. Is it wrong that I think like this?

Hello Sister, First of all, you have made the most important step by admitting that you cannot stop on your own.(2) Find NA meetings in your immediate area, if you are on a drug that requires detox, get it done immediately, get a sponsor and follow all suggestions. If you cannot follow the simple suggestions. Go to an in-house program. By continually using, the pain gets worst, but there are (3) THREE definate guarentees, JAIL, INSTITUTION or DEATH, and no one knows what order they will come in. Your 13 year old will be an orphan....

Drug and alcohol abuse              Reply to this Comment
My name is Janine I am 32 years old. My husband and I have been married for 12 years and we have a beautiful 11 year old son. My husband is very addicted to crack/cocaine. He has been ever since we started dating when I was 17. I never did any type of drug. I am very against drugs. My son is getting older and he is starting to ask questions. I don't want my son or I to be subject to this life any more. My husband is on a binge right now. When he uses he does not come home for a few days, sometimes a week. I would love for him to get help but, I know he is not ready. I am ready to get out of this situation. Please Help

daughter hooked on alcohol and marijuana              Reply to this Comment
In the last 3 years my 20 year old daughter has lost her license for 10 years due to DWIs, lost three jobs, was kicked out of college, lost thousands of dollars to lawyers and is now sitting in jail for 30 days which could possibly extend to a year because she violated her prohbation. She admits she "might" have a drinking problem but thinks outpatient therapy (8 hours a day for 30 days) is too intense. I'd love to commit her to a lockdown facility, but I'm told if she denies she has a problem, then no program, whether in or out patient will help. I'm lost and don't know where to go next.

Re: CRACK/DIVORCE              Reply to this Comment
I've never had problems with drugs, but I know the dedication it takes to help a user. You put in so much time and love and effort to help someone out, and it'll work! But then, they'll relaspe and turn their back on you. I'm not saying this is your husband's case, but if you decide to stay together, then do yourself a favor and make SURE that you're willing to move freaking mountains around to help and support your husband and your son. (I'm sure he'll have some tender moments you'll need to look after.) I don't know you or your family, but if you can't meet the demands of a grotesquely painful situation, I suggest you push your inlaws or husband's close friends to really support him. If you, being his closest family and all, leave him without someone to rely and lean on, I'm pretty sure your son and inlaws will resent you for that.

Don't know whether to be rigid or nurturing with expectations. 20-something daughter tied up with meth/alchohol and bad-news boyfriend. She's almost done with a 21 day 12-step and not sure she'll stay with the out-patient program. Mental issues not addressed? How to offer help she'll take?? Please pray for her. I love her so.
