Painful Childhood              Reply to this Comment
Book Title: A Childhood Taken Away by a Mother and Grandfather Author: Linda Sommer Farley ISBN: 1413775195 Publisher: Publish America Book Description One of the most beautiful aspects of life is the relationship and love between a mother and child. To go through life without a mother's love can be very cruel and difficult. It can easily destroy you or as in my case make you stronger. With determination you can have a wonderful life after experiencing a tough childhood. After fifty-three years of dealing with someone who was incapable of showing me any respect or love, I can say that I have finally broken free from my mother's bondage. After all of these years I can finally be the person who I want to be. It is as if I have just now begun to live. I will continue to write about my experiences as a child; hopefully, what I have been through will help others. I now know that a new beginning is possible no matter what life throws your way. Farley was born in Springfield, Illinois. She grew up in a large family where money was scarce. Her mother was not around for a great deal of her childhood. She was the sixth child of eight and had the responsibility of raising her younger siblings when no one was at home. An abusive grandfather and mother were traumatic parts of her life. This book contains some of Farley's life stories. She describes the difficulties and accomplishments she has experienced in these painful and some times humorous stories. She wrote this book with the purest of intentions - to help others. my girlfriend is about to have a baby and she is an addict. her choice was more heroin but meth too. she wanted to quit cold turkey but doctors put her on methadone cuz kicking would kill the kid. meth is a little differant than heroin though.. meth is a mental addiction and from what ive learned it can cause mental retardation, behavioral problems, learning disabilities, blindness and stuff like heart & lung defects etc. the early part of pregnancy is the most important so if you plan on having your baby you should stop now if you havent already. later in pregnancy what happens when you get high on meth is the umbilical cord that supplies blood n such to the baby is squeezed, meaning you are basically sufficating your kid. in california, they pee test every time you see the doctor, which for the last month is weekly. if they are suspicious and want to catch you slippin, either the doctor or cps will test the babies fecal matter (which takes a month to clear traces), or your hair (which takes 3 months). ill check to see if you post anything back, if you need some advice or just someone to be real with you about this stuff (i know its hard to get sometimes). I'm not a doctor or anything, but I also struggle with meth addiction and i've been through pregnancy too, so i got a clue where your at. and dont worry, its never too late.

Drugged out mother              Reply to this Comment
My mom has been hooked on drugs since she was a teen. She's been in prison for them off and on over years. She always says she wants help but never gets enough to help her. She has 3 kids, I'm the oldest at 21 but my 2 younger sisters still need a mother that can take care of them. I would like her to get off drugs too. This mrning she called me saying I should get on a computer and find a mental health and drug treatment program in one. I don't know if it exists. Especially in my city. It may in Kansas City, Mo. Which is about 60 miles south of me. If any one can give me a little direction, just a path to take her to, then maybe she can stop with the life of drugs and have a life where she would work, take care of her 2 young daughters and be happy.
