WHY DO PEOPLE USE 4-MTA (4 METHYLTHIOAMPHETAMINE)?
It is an amphetamine designer drug and identified as a club drug. Used in nightclubs, 4-MTA is primarily used for its mild stimulant and euphoric effects. Much milder than other speed drugs, which have a higher ‘kick’ factor, there is less hallucinations and visual distortions experienced with the usage of this drug.
Users claim an increased burst of energy and calm like Prozac.
4-MTA is not as popular as other amphetamine stimulants because of the risk associated with the usage of the drug. It is especially risky when mixed with other speed drugs like ecstasy and cocaine, and has the potential to cause death. Users generally tend to overdose – as they believe that the small doses are not giving them the desired effect.
Due to its negative and high-risk image, usage is limited. The profile of users of 4-MTA usually tends to be experimenters – those wanting to experience different sensations with a range of drugs.
Studies are sketchy on the usage of this drug and its effects. A drug user, given a 125mg dosage, described the experience as mild and did not recommend it for a second try.
