THE EFFECTS OF CLUB DRUGS USE
The term "Club drug" vaguely refers to a variety of drugs like MDMA (Ecstasy), GHB, Rohypnol, ketamine, LSD and methamphetamine. Certain uncertainties about the sources of the drug, pharmacological agents, and chemicals used in manufacturing, and possible contaminants make it difficult to gauge toxicity, symptoms and consequences.
Numerous dangers are associated with the use of such drugs. For example:
Use of MDMA can cause blood pressure and heart rate to rise to high levels, and can lead to kidney or heart conditions.
This can cause severe hyperthermia with a combination of the drug's stimulant effect with the hot and crowded atmosphere of a rave.
GHB and Rohypnol are mainly central nervous system depressants. This is because they are often tasteless, colorless, and odorless and can be mixed with liquids and ingested unknowingly.
Small doses of intoxication from ketamine result in impaired attention, learning ability, and memory loss. Higher dosage, ketamine causes delirium, amnesia, high blood pressure, impaired motor function, depression, and respiratory problems, that maybe fatal.
A powerfully addictive stimulant Methamphetamine is associated with serious health conditions, like aggression, memory loss, and potential heart and brain problems. Most users also display a number of psychotic features, like paranoia, mood disturbances, auditory hallucinations and delusions.
