THE EFFECTS OF DEPRESSANTS USE
The operation of the brain is slowed down by the depressants of the central nervous system. The areas of the brain that controls a person’s voluntary actions and conscious are first affected by these depressants. Increase of the dose by the use of these depressants starts affecting the parts of the brain, which are responsible of controlling the body’s automatic, unconscious processes like the respiratory system and heartbeat.
Once again the affects of depressants are compared to those of alcohol.
We can observe in them slow reflexes, impaired ability to divide attention, impaired judgment and concentration, reduced social inhibitions, mumbled slurred or incoherent speech, impaired vision and coordination, and many emotional effects like suicidal tendencies, laughing or crying for no apparent reason, euphoria, depression, etc.
The time it takes for the user to feel the effects of these depressants vary in time. There are some depressants, which act quickly and within seconds the user feels its effects. These fast acting depressants show results for a short time. Some depressants take longer time to show its affect. In some cases it takes the user an hour or more to come under its influence. The slow acting depressants show long lasting effects.
