WHY DO PEOPLE USE GHB?

A substance that was taken by the body builders to improve the growth of muscles is GHB. At present, GHB is widely used by the youngsters (as fun drug) in parties and clubs.

It is usually used along with other similar substances like ecstasy and is referred to as designer drug. It can be of different forms like capsule, tablet, powder or liquid and is manufactured from a chemical, which is used in the cleaning of electrical circuit boards.

This drug is without taste and odor. Those who take GHB say that they feel relaxed after taking it. After five to twenty minutes of ingestion, the effects can be felt which will carry on for four hours approximately.

In the year 1990, GHB was banned by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) when fifty-seven cases of illness due to GHB was reported in emergency rooms and poison control centers. These ailments were in the form of vomiting, nausea, seizures, respiratory problems and coma. Except for a person under medical administration, normal people are not allowed to buy it.

The side effects of GHB use include serious respiratory problems; liver failure, nausea, seizures, trembling and some times these can lead to coma.

It has been found that in many date rape cases, GHB was used as detection of its presence was not possible because the drug is without odor and taste.
