THE EFFECTS OF GAMMA HYDROXYBUTYRATE USE

The most common effects of Gamma Hydroxybutyrate are dizziness, drowsiness, nausea and vomiting in some cases. Since the drug is a sedative-hypnotic, its effects are similar to those of tranquilizers and alcohol in some ways. The difference is that Gamma Hydroxybutyrate not just “may cause drowsiness” like other drugs, but will almost certainly do so. Lack of coordination (Ataxia) can also be a side effect of this drug.

Hence, you must not operate dangerous machinery or even drive a vehicle while under its influence. Muscle contractions or seizures (‘clonic’ movements) can also be seen during onset of sleep induced by Gamma Hydroxybutyrate. Headache may also occur. The heart rate is moderately slowed down and blood pressure may change to some extent. A sudden drop in the blood pressure (as happens when one stands up quickly), referred to as ‘orthostatic hypotension’, can also occur due to this drug. This may be felt as a brief dizzy spell, and people lose consciousness for a short while in rare cases. In case of very high doses of Gamma Hydroxybutyrate, respiratory and cardiac depression may take place. Large doses of this drug may cause loss of consciousness and sudden sedation. In certain rare cases of extreme reactions to this drug, diarrhea, temporary amnesia, lack of bladder control and sleepwalking have also been reported. The side effects of Gamma Hydroxybutyrate are often even more sever if other central nervous system depressants are combined with this drug.
