    THE EFFECTS OF HALLUCINOGENS USE

Hallucinogens can cause effects, which cannot be predicted, and these effects depend on the environment, mood and personality of the user, the quantity and the strength of the drug. Its initial effects can be experienced after half-an-hour or one-an-half-hour. Based on the quantity and type of the drug, the effects can continue for about twelve hours.

Those who take hallucinogens may go through several effects like trembling, drowsiness, unclear speech, dry mouth, and loss of appetite, dilated pupils, high blood pressure and heart rate.

If a person mix drugs and take them together then they may experience heart or lung failure, convulsions, coma and even death.

The mind is intensely affected by hallucinogens as they change the emotions and feelings of the users. It may so happen that the user may go through extreme mood swings or experience various different emotions at one time. Sensory disturbances such as hallucinations and delusions are also caused by hallucinogens. The users may ‘see’ sound or ‘hear’ colors. The users for upto a year can experience flashbacks without taking the drug in increased quantity.

Hallucinogens make the users tolerate the drugs faster thereby making them take an increased amount to get the desired high or effect. However, these drugs usually do not cause addiction or obsession. When hallucinogens are taken in excess then the threat of overdose or negative response rises. Nevertheless, ketamine or PCP can make the users desire for more of the drug thereby causing dependence.
