Isobutyl nitrite being a chemical component results in a series of reactions in the user’s body. Taken for recreational purpose its effects follow from the physiological to the psychological.
Long-term usage of isobutyl nitrite leads to addiction. Although there have been no reports of any severe side effects due to long-term usage, people with medical history of cardiac problems and glaucoma are at risk.
Overdose of this drug however have quite a few negative effects ranging from irritation of the skin to blurring of sight. Serious cases may lead to vomiting, vertigo, heavy pounding of the heart and loss of consciousness. Some people even complain of a mild to severe headache.
Inhaling isobutyl nitrite mixed with drugs like Viagra may even be lethal. Although it has not yet proven research is on to prove that this drug results in the progression of Kaposi’s sarcoma, a sexually transmitted infection among homosexual men. Since it creates a temporary suspension of judgment, people may indulge in reckless sexual encounters, which may ultimately lead to a heightened risk of transmission of HIV/AIDS.
