A psychoactive drug, isobutyl nitrite has no prescribed medical usage. And like any other psychoactive substance people to derive pleasure primarily use it.
The chemical combination of this drug affects the central nervous system and consequently the functioning of the brain. It actually decreases the blood pressure of the user by the process of vasodilatation or dilation of the blood vessels and increases the rate of heartbeat.
What is then experienced is described as a ‘rush’, a sudden euphoric and dizzy feeling within a few seconds of inhaling isobutyl nitrite and can last for several minutes thereafter.
The main purpose behind using this illegal drug is to enhance sexual arousal and performance. Users report of a sudden ‘high’ that exonerates them of all their inhibitions, which result in a better sexual performance. Also owing to the relaxation of muscles the act becomes easier altogether. Apart from being widely used by homosexual men isobutyl nitrite is also used by teenagers in groups or parties. Much like LCD or cocaine or ecstasy it boosts the pleasure factor among such groups.
