LIDOCAINE USE SIGNS
Based on the condition that is being treated with Lidocaine, different side effects to the drug may be experienced. Some side effects that may be felt but need not cause alarm or stopping of the medication include nausea and vomiting, drowsiness or dizziness, anxiety, restlessness or nervousness. The patient may also feel hot or cold and may either feel numbness or pain at the site of injection. If any of these symptoms occur for a longer period or cause the patient any bother, then the Doctor should be informed.
There are some other more severe side effects that should be immediately reported to the Doctor. They are chest pain and continued irregular heartbeats, difficulty in breathing or wheezing, headache, swelling of the legs or feet, convulsions, shaking or trembling and a feeling of unusual weakness or fatigue. Other serious side effects include finger tips, skin or/and lips turning blue or purplish, dark urine and blurred or double vision.
In case Lidocaine is being administered as an injection, then utmost care must be taken to avoid any injury to the site of the injection, as it may be numb and the patient may not feel any pain. In case symptoms of a heart attack are felt, then the doctor should be contacted immediately.
