MANNITOL USE SIGNS
There are a number of indications, which will reveal that a person is using mannitol. Some of the side effects that take place at the time or after the use of mannitol consist of fever, chest pain which imitates angina, dehydration, tachycardia, faintness, hypotension, thrombophlebitis, urticaria, seizures, chills, pain in the arm, dry mouth, unclear vision, skin necrosis, arm pain, vomiting or nausea, rhinitis, urinary retention, headache, edema, acidosis, thirst, fluid and electrolyte imbalance and pulmonary congestion.
Some of the effects which may take place due to the method of administration or because of the solution include hypervolemia, extravasation, venous thrombosis or phlebitis widening from the injected area, infection on the injected area, febrile response.
However, if a negative response takes place then stop the injection and check the patient.
Undertake the right treatment to counteract the response and if necessary, put aside the rest of the fluid for examination.
If excess quantity of mannitol is injected at once then it will lead to the movement of intracellular water into the extracellular compartment and as a result some of the effects, which will take place, are pulmonary edema, congestive heart failure, overexpansion of the intravascular space with hyponatremia and dehydration.
