WHY DO PEOPLE USE MANNITOL?
An osmotic diuretic is mannitol. Osmotic diuretics help the kidney to convert the excess fluid in the body to urine after removing from the blood. Water is drawn out of the blood by sodium salt and through the kidney is excreted in the form of urine out of the body.
There are many uses of mannitol.
Due to kidney failure lesser urine is produced, this drug cures as well as checks it. To reduce the increased pressure in the eyes and in the brain (cerebral edema) this drug is widely applied. When aspirin and barbiturates become excess in the body due to over dose, mannitol helps to excrete these materials.
Enhances subtraction of toxins from the system if any overdose is taken
Oliguric renal failure or kidney disorder linked with low output of urine
Increased pressure in the eye known as intraocular pressure, glaucoma is an example
Puffiness in the brain or cerebral oedema
For constant monitoring of the function of kidney, repeated blood tests should be carried out if anyone undergoes mannitol.
Anyone under this medication should have frequent blood tests to check the amount of potassium in the blood.
It is also required to keep an eye on sodium level when under the treatment of this drug
Discontinuation of mannitol is suggested, if the following symptoms are observed during the treatment: clogging of lungs, deteriorating heart failure and declining kidney disorder.
