THE HISTORY OF MARIJUANA

The most extensively used illegitimate substance in today’s world is Marijuana. Marijuana’s use is also highly disputable. Even though legalization process is on the way, it is necessary to know the truth.

A plant, cannabis sativa is the source of marijuana which can be cultivated domestically as well as in the fields throughout the world.

The marijuana that is available in USA is obtained from U.S itself along with Canada (“BC Bud”) and Mexico (“Mexican Red/Brown).

The leaves, buds and resin of the cannabis plant make up marijuana. The ‘hemp’ is the sterilized seeds and the stalks.

A chemical called ‘cannabinoids’ is contained in the cannabis sativa plant. The cannabinoid that is considered to be the cause of the psychoactive effects is known as THC or delta-9-tetrhydrocabbabinol.

The entire plant of cannabis as well as the hemp contains THC. That is the reason for careful regulation of hemp- certain products made from hemp like soap, lotion, yarn, clothing and rope are permissible goods as they do not let THC to go into the human system.

Every part of the plant along with hemp has THC, whilst most of it is found in marijuana, in the cannabis plant. As THC resembling marijuana is a schedule I restricted matter, the existence of THC in hemp is important.
