Taking methadone on a regular basis will make the user physically dependent on it, as it is an opiate. Early in the treatment process, many patients often die. Deaths generally occur due to overdose and they are affected by connected illnesses such as pneumonia and hepatitis. This drug can lead to a number of opioid side effects, which include physical and mental dependence and increase in tolerance level. Depression in the respiratory system can be risky. Histamines, which are released, can lead to bronchospasms or hypotension. Several other symptoms consist of edema, vertigo, sedation, nausea and constipation.
