THE EFFECTS OF METHADONE USE
Those who are under a treatment with methadone usually complain of unnecessary symptoms. The cause for such symptoms especially during the treatment program is either because of very less or large amount of methadone. However, the drug itself may cause some side effects, which may result in the symptoms.
Very low dosage of methadone can cause symptoms, which may be similar to the flu symptoms.
These symptoms consist of:
- Sneezing and running nose.
- Pining for methadone.
- Insomnia.
- Uncomfortable feelings and bad temper.
- Sweating.
- Chills.
- Pain in the back and joints.
- Yawning.
- Diarrhea.
- Tears.
- Contraction and pulling of muscles.
- Trembling.
- No appetite.
- Weakness.
- Cramps in the stomach.
If an individual discontinue with methadone all of a sudden then he may go through some of the above-mentioned symptoms. He may experience withdrawal symptoms after one to three days from the last time he took methadone. Withdrawal symptoms usually are at its peak on the 6th day although it can carry on for a few more days.
Overdose of methadone consist of:
- Poor circulation of blood.
- Sexual dysfunction.
- Faintness.
- Palpitations.
- Low blood pressure and pulse rate.
- Decrease in the body temperature.
- Sleepiness.
- Nausea.
- Short Breaths.
