It has been reported by many street users of methaqualone that they feel relaxed, calm, open and unembarrassed about things that they do when they take this drug. All these have given methaqualone a name of aphrodisiac (drug that increases sexual need). On the other hand, the belief that sexual performance and satisfaction is improved is not based on this. Even though the drug can reduce inhibitions and increase sexual longing, it actually decreases a person’s sexual performance.
Most of the time the users mix methaqualone with alcohol and ‘luding out’ is the expression given to such behavior. The combination of these two creates an enjoyable feeling, impairment of proprioceptive (position) sense, rise in pain threshold and tingling of tongue, lips and fingers (parathesthesia). The user may go through painless and enjoyable ataxia, which in turn will make the user experience euphoria as a delusion of indestructibility is created in the minds of the users. Some users fall down the stairs and bruise themselves but they do not feel the pain before the next day or so.
There are quite a few street users who explain the feelings of methaqualone as soothing and tranquil. It can be like in a drunken condition or as a rush. There are also some users who say that they experience a high by avoiding the urge to sleep.
