    OXYCONTIN USE SIGNS

The symptoms and indications of addiction to OxyContin can be administered and managed by the physician more successfully than if the patient is not under the supervision of a doctor. This drug should be taken only when your physician prescribes it for you. The likelihood of OxyContin addiction will increase if it is taken illegally.

This drug is alike to other drugs, which can cause addiction, such as marijuana, heroin and alcohol.

All these drugs have the tendency to increase the levels of a neurotransmitter (connected with the occurrence of satisfaction) called dopamine. Accordingly, a person will be influenced in such a manner that he or she will not be able to discontinue with the drug by his or her own if it is taken for a long time. This is a distinctive sign of addiction to OxyContin.

When all of a sudden the patient stops taking OxyContin, the chances of his or her going through withdrawal symptoms is more. These withdrawal symptoms may be serious and they consist of fever, muscle pain, insomnia, nausea, anxiety and other symptoms, which may be similar to flu.

The side effects of OxyContin consist of:

    -         Death caused by slowed breathing or cardiac arrest due to overdose of OxyContin (particularly when crushed tablets are swallowed).

    -         Low blood pressure.

    -         Heart stops to function.

    -         Spasms.

    -         Faintness.

    -         Vomiting.

    -         Headaches.

    -         Increased pressure of spinal and cerebral fluid.

    -         Respiratory depression or abnormal breathing.
