The drug strychnine is mainly used as a motivator. Strychnine is very helpful in curing people with paralyses (mainly operational) and it is very important in dealing post-diphtheritic paralysis among the patients. Large quantity of strychnine will be helpful to patients who have paralysis as a result of extreme alcoholism, beri-beri and palsy. Injecting a person with strychnine can save his life if he is about to collapse because of pneumonia or any other severe disease.

When a patient collapses after heart or respiratory arrest and serious blood loss, injecting one gram of hydrochloride can help the cardiac activity. Strychnine is extremely helpful in severe opium poisoning. Strychnine can combat with physostigmine, morphine and chloral hydrate and if a person has been poisoned from any of these drugs then strychnine can be given to that person. If asthma, phthisis and emphysema cause breathing problems in a patient then 1 to 3 minims of strychnine can be given to the patient internally. Tonic comprises of strychnine, quinine and iron.

Strychnine is considered as a strong antiseptic if it is applied on the surface. On the other hand, its poisonous properties do not allow it to be used for such use. This drug can get into the blood when injected or by being absorbed by mucous surfaces. The central nervous system will determine the extent of the drug’s effects.
