    ADD BEHAVIOR DISORDER

Certain characteristic types of behavior disorder can help to identify an ADD victim .ADD predominantly affects children and adolescents and can extend to adulthood, when it becomes difficult to spot, as by that time adaptive strategies have been adopted by mature adults to hide this chronic mental illness. 3 main sub-types (of behavior disorders) may be cited:

    Inattention

Such people have a hard time concentrating on and finishing tasks or studies for a sufficiently period of time and lose interest or feel bored before long.

    Impulsivity

These people act before they think, often running out into the streets without looking or blurting out inappropriate comments at inappropriate times or climbing to the very top of trees.

    Hyperactivity

Such kind cannot sit still for long and always have to be in motion, dashing round or talking incessantly. Kids may squirm in their seats.

The behavior disorders listed below are indicators of ADD in adolescents:

    1) Giving the impression of not listening when being spoken to

    2) Coming up with plenty of excuses for not getting things done

    3) An unusual sense of fairness

    4) Completing tasks at the eleventh hour

    5) Procrastination

    6) Regularly running late for school

    7) Being easily distracted with a brief attention span

    8) Constantly losing things like homework

    9) General untidiness at home or in school

    10) Never submitting assignments on time

    11) Can’t seem to organize activities and tasks

    12) In adults, ADD may manifest itself in behavioral disorders like substance abuse problem, depression, and anxiety, getting fired from jobs or getting divorced, a sense of underachievement (commonest symptom).

    13) Difficulty with executive functioning

    14) Restlessness, multi-tasking tendencies

    15) Problem in developing self-regulation

    16) Learning and emotional problems

    17) Having negative perception of own self as being crazy, lazy or stupid.
