    ADD DISORDER IN A CHILD

Inattention, impulsive behavior, and sometimes hyperactivity are symptoms of a common disorder in children know as Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD). Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is also a similar kind if disorder in children. Children suffering from ADD appear to be wired into activities that happen in their surroundings. These children can not concentrate when confronted with specific distractions and they become hypersensitive to their environs.

3 % to 5 % of children show this deficiency.

For an ADD child it is very difficult to concentrate on school work or some other task which require constant attention. Due to their inattentive behavior, this leads to incomplete work. Such children can not stick to a work for a long time even if it is a play activity. ADD children have an impulsive nature due to which they sometimes interrupt others, speak out of turn or even involve in some risky business. These children are hyperactive and are always on the move, they run about or climb on things, move excessively during sleep.

ADD children may or may not show signs and symptoms which are apparent to us. Diagnosis of ADD in children is not an easy process due to the intricacies of this disorder and variations from child to child. If a child behaves more aggressively as compared to other children, it does not always mean that he is suffering from ADD. A physician or specialist should always be consulted and proper diagnosis should be done to find out whether the disorder really exists. The exact causes of ADD in children are still not known to physicians and specialists.   But the possibilities are that ADD can be physical, prenatal or genetic in nature. Research work is still going on in this field.
