ADD IN SCHOOL
Symptoms that exhibit impulsivity, inattention and hyperactivity are due to ADD, Attention Deficit Disorder, which is more evident when children are in early school years or in preschool. An ADD child faces difficulties but it is not an impossible task to carry on. Five out of every hundred children have ADD in schools, as per the statistics. Boys suffer more with this disorder as compared to girls, almost three times more.
For an attention deficit disorder child, school can be much tougher. If a student cannot control his behavior and does not have a good attention span, he can never attain success. These are the areas where these children face the maximum difficulty. The structured environment of a classroom and focusing on their assigned schoolwork often becomes difficult for the child to adjust with.
Students with ADD are provided with proper learning environment in most of the schools today. Different arrangements are made for their seating place; they are made to sit near the teacher. Adjusting to changes is not a very easy task for an ADD child; hence teachers keep them out of tasks, which demand concentration. A study area with reduced stimuli may also be beneficial. A student with ADD will not feel left out if we allow all the students to access this area.
A professional physician or a psychologist for normal children should carry out proper examination as well; this is because sometimes, normal children also show symptoms of ADD. To cure ADD symptoms cognitive and behavioral therapies with medication must be used.
