ADD TREATMENT BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION
In majority of ADD treatments, which are drug free, behavior modification, which is also known as good parenting, is an important part. Actually, it’s nothing more than applying common sense systematically.
This doesn’t, however, undermine the vast research done in this field showcasing its favorable effects, or better to say, the favorable effects as regards good parenting. I simply want to put forward the fact that this technology has got nothing magical, new or uncommon to it.
It’s only the systematic approach to ADD, which creates the difference.
The “systematic approach” of behavioral programs needs to be stressed. I have worked with many parents of ADD children who tried different ways of behavior treatment but were unable to obtain the results that you can count as success. This treatment is successful only if you apply it consistently. Doing it correctly sometimes or not making mistakes always won’t yield results.
Let’s understand the difficulty of “systematic approach” of behavioral treatment. This approach frequently taps the emotional situations or actions of a parent’s life. For example, you often bring back the work pressure of office to home that interferes with parenting, despite your effort of not mixing the two.
This gives you a bad feeling as a parent when you take proper parenting action. Finally, parents don’t do what they feel bad about, in spite of having the knowledge about good parenting. As a result, their behavior frequently turns out to be inconsistent.
