BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION PROPERTIES AND ADHD
Behavior modification is all about the behavior of the person suffering from ADHD and his reactions to the situations around. ADHD may be a disease of the brain but if the person suffering from it is encouraged and supported in the right way, they can act as normal as any other healthy individual. They would think before doing something rather than acting blindly.
There are certain properties on which behavior modification is modeled:
Rather than jack-of-all-trades and master of none, any one behavior of the person should be targeted.
In such delicate matters, be specific is very important.
Since there is a target on the behavior, it should be clearly mentioned. Let things be on a clear-cut rage rather than getting finicky about it.
Between all this there should be a mix of both positive and negative things. Being too much positive may make a person become very laid back and too much of a negative approach makes them look at things in the most negative way.
Take to that language which can be easily adapted by your child. ADHD leaves them with a lot of confusion. Don’t make things more complicated for them.
Not all children benefit from the behavior modification program. There should be the perfect negative or positive re-enforcers. Not all children are the enthusiastic kind, which leaves this program unsuccessful for many.
