ALCOHOL ABUSE AND THE HEALTH RISK IT POSES

It is a very well known and an ordinary habit of the adults to consume alcoholic drinks in a social gathering. You are not in any danger of any medical condition if you drink some times. However, these occasional drinking can lead to alcohol abuse gradually. The effects of alcohol abuse on us are numerous and constant consumption of alcohol can cause serious harm to our health.

If you have chronic alcohol abuse then your liver is at risk as it is the main target of this disorder. If you have consumed a lot of alcohol lately then it will harm the liver cells causing alcoholic hepatitis. However, if you have been drinking heavily for quite some time now then most of the region around your liver can be scarred or damaged. This will lead to liver cirrhosis. You may be putting your life in danger if your liver is damaged.

Another health condition, which the people having alcohol abuse can suffer from, is cardiomyopathy. The muscular tissue of the heart can be destroyed and weakened if a person drinks alcohol for a long time. This will lead to heart failure, which is a condition where the heart of a person stops to function. Chronic alcohol abuse can also cause bleeding disorders and anemia.

Those who drink a lot have more chances of getting peptic ulcer disease. Drinking excessive alcohol for a long period can damage the lining of the stomach and can lead to stomach problems like peptic ulcers, for example.

The capability of a person to drive a vehicle is also weakened if his thinking and coordination is influenced by alcohol. When a person is intoxicated, he or she believes that he or she is capable of driving. Occasionally, this can lead to serious accidents. There are many other kinds of accidents, which can take place when a person is under the influence of alcohol. Some examples of such accidents are boating accidents, accidents caused by fire which can injure or take the life of a person, accidents caused by water sports, snowmobiling accidents and so on.

You should restrict the consumption of alcohol in social gatherings as it can cause various health related disorders. As a result, it is important that you ask for rehabilitation and treatment right away (is you have alcohol abuse) before it destroys everything that is dear to you.
