    ALCOHOL ABUSE AND THE TEENAGER

The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism reported on June 1997 that deaths of the teenagers are mostly caused by alcohol. The consequence of consumption of alcohol by teenagers led to the increase in date rape, suicide, terrible injuries and car accidents. At present, the teenagers in the United States consume alcohol at an alarming rate and it is the most abused drug. About a third of the students in high schools drink a minimum of five drinks when they sit down to drink.

This was found out by the national survey.

In the United States, about twenty million people are alcoholics and their children have more chances of getting this disorder. Four-tenth of the youngsters who begin to drink at the age of fourteen or even younger have more chances of turning into alcoholic people. I feel that this takes place because people are not aware that alcoholism can be hereditary. The American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry reported that if their parents are alcoholics then their kids are four times more prone to alcoholism.

Are you a teenager whose parent or grand parent are alcoholics? If yes then you have more chances of developing alcoholism. In this case, consuming a single drink will be bad. Russian roulette resembles this. It is better to deny yourself alcohol than to die from alcoholism or excessive drinking.

Youngsters should not be a victim of this disorder. Instead, acquire knowledge about the propensity of alcoholism to be hereditary. In order to prevent the use and misuse of alcohol, you should educate and deny yourself this drug.
