    ALCOHOL ABUSE PROGRAM

There are three broad steps in the treatment program for alcohol addiction. Rehabilitation, detoxification and intervention are the three steps, which are included in the treatment program for alcohol addiction. Those who have problems with drinking will never admit that they are suffering from those problems. The first step of the treatment program, i.

    e. intervention, is a very challenging step as the drinkers are made to face that they have problems relating to drinking and they are told about the end results if they do not take up the treatment procedure.

Intervention is a well-planned method where the friends, colleagues and the family members of the alcoholic gather together in order to show the alcoholic that they are concerned about his or her actions. If this method is performed in the right way then it can get the alcoholic, as well as those people who are connected to him or her, out of the trouble and to help him deal with his or her alcohol dependence. The treatment cannot be effective if the alcoholic does not admit that she or he has drinking problems.

Given below are the 3 chief methods of the treatment program for alcohol addiction:

    1. Intervention – Intervention is the first method of the treatment program where the problem drinker, as well as his or her boss or family members, are made to realize and admit that he has drinking problems. Just when the problem is admitted and recognized, the consumption of alcohol is discontinued.

Reasonable drinking may be successful if the individual involved is not an alcohol dependent but problem drinker. Usually, most of the alcoholics will not confess that they cannot control their drinking habits. In such a case, the best way to take care of this problem will be to allow them to drink reasonably. The drinking trouble will work out if moderate drinking works. However if it does not then the alcoholic has to restraint himself or herself. Very often it is necessary that the family members of the alcoholic be made to undergo counseling for treatment and education as this problem of the alcoholic affects them.

       2.  Detoxification – This method takes four to seven days normally. If an individual has been drinking more alcohol per day then there   are more chances that he or she may develop withdrawal symptoms as soon as their alcohol consumption is discontinued.

These symptoms can vary from irritation and being uncomfortable to severe cases and even death. Usually this symptoms start within twelve hours when the alcoholic last consumed alcohol and it can last for 2 or 3 days approximately.

He or she may be required to be hospitalized for medical surveillance. Pulling out from alcohol is usually safely done in medically controlled surroundings. Moreover to provide relief to the withdrawal symptoms, medicines can be used. Some other medicinal troubles that are present may increase the chances of developing serious withdrawal symptoms in a person. Take for example, liver problems and clotting of blood usually takes place in those who drink heavily. Other severe symptoms for instance spasms, delirium tremens or fever may also take place.

    3. Rehabilitation –The recuperation from alcoholism ought to consist of help for the alcoholic when the detoxification stage is accomplished so as to make sure that he or she does not go back to drinking alcohol. The support of this kind usually consists of psychotherapy, medical care and nursing. Moreover, education on disease caused by alcohol the effect of alcohol on body ought to be included in this stage.

If alcohol abuse and alcoholism are not treated properly, they can cause death. You should never think that it is very late to treat the alcoholic from his problems through rehabilitation, detoxification and intervention.
