After a number of exhaustive studies conducted over teens and children it has been found that those with ADHD are more prone to become depressed at times during their growth-period. They are three times more susceptible to bouts of depression than other children of their age.
Depression in children with ADHD is an acute disease and not merely a phase of "demoralization". ADHD can cause some struggles and makes the children and the teenagers more exposed to frequent attacks of depression.
But those should not be understated as simply phases of demoralization but must be treated as a disorder.
It should not be assumed that by only addressing the problems arising from ADHD, symptoms of depression could be easily treated. Special treatments should be implemented on the child who suffers from depression. Their parents have to be more careful and sensitive about the bouts of depression in their little ones and they should never ignore it as another passing aspect of their ADHD.
Parents who are keen on correcting this problem in their children are advised to seek the help of trained and experienced professionals in the ambit of mental health of children. Evaluating a child's mental set up and then carrying out treatment is quite a difficult and long-drawn process, which requires to be dealt by specialists in this particular field.
