ADHD is at times confused with depression. Depression can occur at any time and is curable with proper medical intervention. Depression can be termed as mood disorders, which occurs to both adults and children.
Depression can be considered to have a starting date but ADHD is inborn; Look out for it in the following:
1.
If the child seems to be very sad or melancholic, or very grouchy or irritable?
2. If the child does not enjoy doing anything, even the things he used to like doing?
3.If the child seems bored most of the time and just sits around.
If the child shows a sudden increase or decrease in weight.
4.If the child seems to be sleeping much more than usual, or if he has difficulty in going to sleep or getting up from sleep.
5. If the child seems to be in an agitated or restless state always.
6. If he is finding it difficult to concentrate in schoolwork.
7. If he is suffering from more than normal indecision.
8. If the child has been talking about suicides or has made attempts at suicide.
Even if three or four of these characteristics are similar to the symptoms that are displayed by your child or teen over the past six months, especially the one about contemplating suicide then it is imperative that you take him to a clinical psychologist or a psychiatrist or refer to an experienced therapist as others may complicate the condition by diagnosing depression as ADHD.
