WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF ADOLESCENT AND TEENAGE DEPRESSION?

At some point of time every individual are down and blue. It is an experience common among all of us. But this common experience turns into a serious issue if you feel down most of the time and this ‘blue period’ begins to affect your behavior, your relationships and your grades in various ways. In these cases the feeling blue can be a grave illness, adolescent depression that is suffered every year by 4 out of a 100 teenagers.

Since the indications of adolescent depression are various, it generally has no particular sign for the identification of all the symptoms of this depression. So it is better to seek professional aid when any one of the following symptoms of teen depression is noticed.

    • Incessant feelings of unhappiness where you cry persistently without any apparent reason.

    • Incessant feelings of guilt for no valid reason where you feel that you are completely worthless.

    • Low self-esteem and/or loss of confidence.

    • Life becomes meaningless to you where there is no place of good things for you.

    • You lose your temper for trivial things. You tend to overreact or get irritated easily.

    • Changes in your sleeping pattern. It can be you sleep more or you sleep less or you can’t stay asleep or fall asleep.

    • Changes in eating habits. You can eat a lot more or lose your appetite. The change in your weight is extreme.

    • The thought of death comes often. You think about committing suicide even if you don’t have the energy to harm yourself and feel like you are in the process of dying.

i don't know what to do, i'm only 14 and even though this sounds overused i cry myself to sleep because i don't like myself the way i am and sometimes i feel like just causing myself pain but i haven't because i'm aware of what i feel and sometimes i just want to end this all because i don't want to handle this by myself because i know I'm not strong enough. also i would not want my parents to have to know they have a daughter who thinks about killing herself every other day. also they probably would not take it serious because i have tried to bring this up with them before and my mom just brushed it off.
