    DRUG ABUSE SUPPORT

    A strong support system will help a drug dependent person, on the road to recovery and rehabilitation. Other than detoxification, treatment would include therapy, which would be individual, group and family. Cultivating an effective support group will help in the long-term rehabilitation of the person.

     

     

    Bonding with other people on rehab, help the drug dependent person cope with their personal struggle, and is a first step of the therapy process.

    Family plays a key role too, providing strong emotional support and understanding.

     

     

    It is important to seek a support group. There are many support groups and organizations directed towards specific drug treatment, for example alcoholic anonymous, narcotic anonymous etc. Support groups can further be categorized according to religion, occupation or age groups. These help an addict ‘fit-in’ to that specific group based on a common thread. These groups are present in most towns and cities. There are online forums too, reaching out in the virtual world.  Other points of contact would be online lists, help lines and newsletters. All these groups provide information and resources; individuals share their personal experiences and lend a sympathetic ear – all towards ensuring a drug-free life for affected person.
