Outpatient drug rehabilitation means that a person does not live in the facility for treatment, but come to the facility for classes, visits with specialists or group meetings. Outpatient drug rehabilitation centers are more long-term and patients can attend programs for as long as needed. A variety of techniques and program intensity levels are used to achieve this goal.
Intensive day treatment is often as effective as live-in treatment facilities, and is ideal for people that have a strong support system at home.

The opposite end of the spectrum is a program that offers only education and some counseling. This type of outpatient program can be a perfect fit for people who do not have severe addictions.

Outpatient programs, like live-in residential programs often include an analysis of the individual to find the underlying problems that may be causing substance abuse. An individual will then be given a plan based on their history of use and the type of drug abuse. For example, opiate users often require a different type of treatment than users abusing other types of drugs.

Some services that are often suggested to those undergoing outpatient drug rehabilitation are: behavioral counseling, mental health attention, job searching help, support groups, psychiatrist meetings, educational classes on drugs and how they affect a person, and regular visits with a counselor to discuss progress and revise the plan if it is not working.

Most of the time outpatient services are suggested for people after undergoing a live-in treatment. Through outpatient services individuals are able to begin working their way back into the community, but still have the support of those who helped them while they were in rehabilitation. However outpatient services are used, the main goal is that it helps the individual achieve a life without depending upon drugs or alcohol.

I am highly concerned with the practices of your organization especially the prescribing of psychotropic drugs without any regard to contacting the noncustodial parent even after one of your therapists strictly stated that the primary cause for such anxiety in the child was not of a mentasl nature but of family problems which your organization is aiding to thwart.

I agree with Loyd. This is a serious issue. Irresponsible and lazy parents are using these drugs in place of parental responsibility. This misdiagnosis of symptoms goes on every day.

Tell me more about how you think OP doesn't work as well as IP. What experience do you have? Where did you go for treatment. My child is 14 and is using. We are afraid she will just get more mad and until she wants to change she won't no matter where she is sent. We tried Eastside Milam and beth told us she either had to leave the program for go into IM program.

Hi, I am not of your usual heavy meth addict, but of an occasional user not abuser. I would like to know whether six months of attending your classes as an outpatient would aid me before I fall into a long term of heavy use.

selling methadone              Reply to this Comment
it may work for some. but I know some people personally that come to the clinic in Knoxville Tn get the methadone and sell it to by drugs (crack, pain pills, ect). It looks like they would have stronger rules or laws against this. But the clinic they go to gives them the means to continue to use drugs and take advantage of the system. Thank you.

Jenni Pestka, I think you can beat this!              Reply to this Comment
If you're addicted to weed, don't be afraid to contact the police. Many of them are willing--not to send you to jail--but to help you. Doing drugs may be illegal, but they're more interested in weaning you off the drugs. It's okay. We've all hurt people we love before. And don't say you're ONLY 15. 15 is a good age. It's a powerful age, and it's critical in making decisions in your life. And it's wonderful that you're realizing the horror of drugs so soon. Some people turn 30 and the _still_ don't get it. Also, be sure you get into a good church, and ask the Lord Jesus Christ into your heart. But don't do it because I ask you to. Do it because you love Jesus, and hate weed, and need a solution. Jesus loves you ten times as much as you could love him, so embrace him. Don't push him away. I'll pray for you, and I know Jesus is looking out for you. <3 you!

Gabby, it's time you were saved              Reply to this Comment
Gabby, I usually have a long, drawn out speech to help me relate to you, but here is the plain truth: If you want to stop living in Hell, then you can pray the sinner's prayer. But be sure you're praying it to escape this life of terror, and run into Jesus' arms. If you're tired of living this life of horror, pray this prayer: "Father, I am a sinner. But I am here to repent. I ask you to enter my heart and change my life." After praying that simple prayer, you need to take it a step further. You need to get into a good Bible-based church and make Jesus the lord of your life. I guarantee that so many wonderful changes will occur in your life that you'll wonder how you ever got along without Jesus. But it's not forced. You have to _want_ Jesus, as he wants you. <3 you!

Treatment              Reply to this Comment
Hi, Outpatient treatment is better for those who have support at home and are not heavily addicted. Know that most drugs stay in the blood for years after the last use causing withdrawal symptoms and causing you to go into relapse. Because of this it is important to perform a detox program first prior to anything else. Detox can completed inpatient at best. Then comes other treatment to deal with emotional issues. After that it's good to do an outpatient treatment to continue on for as long as needed...

Response to Pill Popping              Reply to this Comment
Although I agree that the prescribing of anti depressants and such should be stopped when it comes to our children I do disagree that it has to do with parenting. I was in therapy for many of my teen years and my father tried as a single parent to help me.He was not a lazy parent by no means and did everything to help me. His last option was to try therapy. When they suggested medication he was hesitant but figured he would try it to see if it helped me. When it did not work he took me off of it. So before we go blaming parents we need to look at the situations. But yes therapists should not be so quick to drug up our children before seeing if there are other ways to help them.
