Are you on any kind of Public Aid? You should be some kind of assistance if you can't work. If you're on SSDI you'll get Medicare within 2 years, with SDI you can get assistance sooner I believe. You can also go to a low cost or free clinic - most major cities have them and see a doctor - an MD will often prescribe meds for psyciatric problems. You need help, you can't live without sleeping, this is an emergency situation. Good luck.

any other parents out there
who have bipolar children, please help. our daughter is
22 years old. she left home
when she was 18, moving from
michigan to florida. she was
just released from jail (a 9
month sentence) for stalking
charges. now she is on
probation for a year. she is
going with strange men, sleeping with whoover comes
along. possibly selling her
self for money. she is more
than likely going to end up
back in jail, maybe even prison for violation of
probation. what is a parent
to do? please help!!!!

sadness.Reply to this Comment
I am tired. I am tired of dealing with things, and it seems that death will be my only escape. And it seems that no one around me cares. My children just scream at me all day long, and my husband only wants me to be his maid and sex object (even then he makes me uncomfortable by doing things I don't want to do.).
Living Well with Depression & Bi-Polar DisorderReply to this Comment
Met the author of this...He was suicidal and at age 49 finally faced and understood he is bi-polar, which means you have three times more depression, and all sorts of other incredible things that he discusses in his book. This publication has made me feel so liberated to know that I am not alone, while at the same time, given me hope - every day is a new chance to do better.

800 Hotline Can Help.Reply to this Comment
Hi - I just want to say you do not need to be suicidal to call the 800 hotline in your area. 20 yrs ago for the reasons you presented I made a call that saved my life. I was able to get both in patient & out patient therapy that helps me resolve issues I did not know I was dealing with. The counseling for my son was priceless because I did not realize what I was doing to him because of my issues. Just know that you're one of the lucky ones, you know you have an issue & are looking for help. Those walking amongst us that do not know they have issues are the ones we need to be afraid of.
Good Luck!

S.A.F.E. Philosophy
Phone is: 1 800 dontcut
The S.A.F.E Alternatives® philosophy begins with the assumption that, although temporarily helpful, self-injurious behavior is ultimately a dangerous and futile coping strategy which interferes with intimacy, productivity and happiness. There is no “safe” or “healthy” amount of self-injury. We also believe that self-injury is not an addiction over which one is powerless for a lifetime,-- people can and do stop injuring, with the right kinds of help and support. Self-injury can be transformed from a seemingly uncontrollable compulsion to a choice.
Battering is not just physicalReply to this Comment
Several kinds of abuse can constitute battering in relationships, and each kind can take many different forms. Our society is so tolerant of abusive behavior that we often do not even recognize some behavior as abusive. Often ones mates & children take the form of a "batterer" without us realizing it. Mental Abuse is a form of battering that you do not have to tolerate. Use your search engine & enter "battered wife help" many types of help are offered online. I was able to get both in patient & out patient therapy that helped me resolve issues I did not know I was dealing with. Being sad and crying all the time is an indicator that treatment is necessary. I personally rec'd treatment in an excellent center after calling the 800# & simply saying "I felt like dying". Within hours I was admitted & was on my way to recovery. Thank the Lord my being sad had a name & a treatment. Call the 800 hotline in your area now. Good Luck!
