Gambling addiction              Reply to this Comment
One of the most beautiful aspects of life is the relationship and love between a mother and child. The only thing I received from my mother was an addiction to gambling. As a baby to adulthood I was raised around gambling. During these frequent card games for money there was filthy language used, arguing, and fighting. I could play a hand of poker at the age of five -- Linda Sommer Farley Synopsis: Linda tells us what life was like for her growing up. She shares with us the trauma of having an abusive grandfather and a mother with a gambling addiction and how it effected her throughout her life. She expresses her embarrassment of growing up poor and the challenges she faced through out her school years due to her poverty. A Childhood Taken Away by a Mother and Grandfather by Linda Sommer Farley is available at: Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble.com, Collinsbooks.com.au,TextbooksRus.com,and can also be ordered at Barnes & Noble and Borders Express Book Stores.

Adult ADHD son...              Reply to this Comment
To whomever might read this: Hello my husband and I came to this part of the country in July 1988. We now have a daughter age 34 who is unmarried with 4 children. Ages 13, 11, 5 and 4. Our grandchildren are split up with 3 sets of grandparents and our daughter does not raise any of them. We are raising the 13 and 4 year olds. We also have a son age 19 going on 20 the end of August this year. His name is Christopher. We adopted Chris at birth from his birth mother. The birth mother stayed with us for the last 1-1/2 months before she gave birth to Chris. She had taken cocaine while pregnant with him in TX. My husband flew to TX to relax in July 1990. While there his Aunt Winnie spoke of Teresa a girlfriend of a fellow co-worker named Chris Cook. Many conversations occurred, hubby called me and we arranged for him to fly back to PA with Teresa Swinger. We are an infertil couple. Teresa was pregnant and looking for a couple to do an open adoption. We were the ones. Teresa gave birth to Chris and she flew back to TX 2 days after he was born. Teresa had done coccaine while she was pregnant with Christopher. At the age of 6, Chris was diagnosed with ADHD and Opposite Defiant Disorder. He was prescribed to take Ridillin and then switched to Aderall. At the age of 13, he stopped taking his medicine. He was mainstreamed in school. In the summer of 2007, Chris was dating his first love. Her name was Erica. They dated til May 2008. They broke up then all hell broke through with our son. He started acting, seeing, talking of the strangest things. We took him to see a physologist in Collegeville. He saw Chris for a while then he advised us to take him to Foundations Behavioral Health in Doylestown in May 2008. My husband was layed off from his good paying job in October 2007. I was layed off from my good paying job in January 2008. We have been renting a home for 10 years on March 1, 2008. The landlord wanted to sell our home. So our entire world was collapsing all around us. Then hubby found another job 9 months after October 31, 2007. Hubby worked from July 1, 2008 to September 26, 2008. Our daughter through many years has caused us alot of emotional baggage. When hubby went back to work in July 2008, I stayed home and continued to unpack and set up our new home. Well our daughter caused me more emotional grief and we had many arguments. We were raising our 13, 5 and 4 year old at home. Back then the 13 year old was 12 years old in middle school. My son was 18 in his senior year of high school. Our daughter did not work. She helped me with the house and her 2 younger sons ages 4 and 3. Well emotions hightened and one thing led to another where I had enough with our daughter and I told her to leave. Well of course we called hubby and that brought the excess baggage to his new job. This occurred at least two times. Hubby left work both times. Finally his new company let my hubby go because of this excess baggage on Sept. 22nd, 2008. It is now Sept. 26th, 2008 and hubby had just climbed 2 flights of stairs at home. He is a smoker of 3 packs of ciggarettes a day. He is Type 2 Diabetic. I am mopping the kitchen floor. Hubby makes a phone call saying I think I am having a heart attack. So he calls an ambulance. We had moved from Chester County-Phoenixville to Montgomery County- Gilbertsville on August 14th, 2008. The ambulance arrives along with police. Tiffany handles her sons and I go to Pottstown Memorial Medical Hospital. Hubby goes and then gets released. Hubby did not want to stay so I came and picked him up. We get through the weekend and on Sept. 29th, 2008 on Monday I had to take hubby to see a cardiologist at 2:00pm. Sure enough hubby has a 2nd heart attack while he is seeing his doctor. They immediately take him by way of ambulance to Pottstown M.M.C. and in turn take him to Phoenixville Hospital. That night they take him into the operating room and put stints into his heart. On Sept. 30th, 2008; The next afternoon they have to perform open heart double bi-pass surgery around 2:00pm
