Methadone is just another gateway drug to get off one thing and onto another. I will admit it did keep my husband off the streets looking for heroin but on the other hand, he has been taking methadone for the last 10 years and is now addicted to that. The clinics do not try to help you get off because they would be out of business. Also they raise the price almost every month so its more expensive than drugs now. He would never go back to heroin but now he is stuck trying to get off methadone wich is alot harder when you have doctors giving it to you and not saying to ever get off. If you have a drug problem the best thing is too just toughen up and get clean. Replacing one thing with another is just as stressful and expensive.

recently my boyfriend admitted himself into the hospital for detox. he was addicted to heroin for about a year. His doctor put him on Suboxone, then took him off it 1 month later. My boyfriend then relapsed back to heroin, then went back to the hospital, and is now back on Suboxone. Just this weekend he ate his last pill and his appointment was monday. he was going through bad withdrawls... the same ones he would get if he was using heroin again. why is this happening?

i am a 38 year old 100% disabled gulf war vet i have had several back surgeries to remove shrapnel that my flak vest missed. now i have been on methadone for 7 years and addicted but when on it i can live a somewhat normal life but if i have a bad month especially in ny winters i tend to take more than usual and my doc says that is ok within reason this leaves me short at the end of the month and everyone knows the withdrawl symtoms. i had an appointment today with mental health so my perscription is due onfriday 3 days away so i went in early and asked if i can get my script explained i was out. the desk pharmasist said that i could not get it early and was very snotty to me and when i asked him to explain to me why he got pissed and calledhis boss over the head pharmasist he sternly said he would not give me the scipt. so i went to my apointment follow up with mental health for ptsd he asked how the meth is working with the increase he perscribed i said fine but i am threedays short. he said i will give you a new script to get today as i dont want you to have back spasims assosiated with withdrawls for fear i could do more damage to my back. i told him that i already tried to get them and the head pharmisist said no. he said if you have any problems tellthem to call me so i go bak to the pharmacy and give them the script this other female said are you the one that talked to my boss earlyer isaid yes she gets on the phone calls him back he comes to me and says i dont care if if the doctor gave you a new perscription you are not getting them i told him that he fears i could injure my back due to muscle spasams and the doc said to call him so as ithought he was calling the doc he called security and escourted me off the premisis wich i thought was a little extreme my question is does he have the authority to veto a doctors order and if not what should i do please email me at gutterguys69@yahoo.com thanks

Help, I do not know where to turn. I have a very good friend who has a very serious drug addiction to crack. It has taken over her life completely. She is 30 years old has three children who have already been taken away from her. I fear if I do not help her she will soon die. Her family has turned their backs on her due to the years of lies and heartbreak. We are in the Dallas area and need help, no job, no insurance. I am willing to do anything I can to help her. I think she is now selling her body for drugs. Any suggestions, are appreciatted. Thanks Sam

I was a heroin addict. I have used every drug on those damn assessments except PCP. I started seriously on Methadone when I was pregnant. I have been on it for 7 years and although it would be much better to be entirely clean from substances, Methadone has saved my life. I don't have cravings,I don't use illicit substances, and people don't need to know that I am on it. I was once told that for me, Methadone is like Insulin, it is just a medication that my body needs. I tried suboxone three times and ended up in the hospital with a "paradoxical effect." I have seen Suboxone work for many people however, I am not one of them. Good luck everyone.

BE VERY CAREFUL. IM 49 AND HAVE BEEN ON SUBUTEX SINCE 8-16-2004 AND NOW AM ADDICTED TO IT. PLEASE IF YOU ARE ON A PROGRAM LIKE MINE , BE VERY CAREFUL. I WAS ONLY ADDICTED TO HYDROCODONE FOR 4 MONTHS. GETTING READY TO GO IN FOR DETOX FOR 3-5 DAYS. WISH ME LUCK! HAL

Hi My name is Tonya I was on Methadone for about 3 years and I switched to suboxone andi was very sick the first 3 days but the reason i was sick is because you are supppose to take subutex to switch over from meth and then go onto the suboxone. But I can tell you this you are not as sleepy like you are on the methadone. i would rather take suboxone than the methadone anyday. the only thing is the suboxone is very expensive if you don't have insurance. Me and my husband changed over and we had all ready earned up to a weeks of methadone take home.

Hey.. I'm almost 21 and I've been on Methadone for almost 2 1/2 years now and it totally turned my life around.. Im heroin free, I have a husband, a daughter, an apartment, a job.. I love my life in that aspect. But, now I want off of methadone NOW! Im sick of taking something to feel normal! I feel TRAPPEd.. they detox you SO slowly it takes like 1-2 years depending on ur dose and I just can't take it. Im looking into suboxone to get off of methadone. If your thinking about methadone I advise doing they're 90 day detox.. DO NOT go on methadone maintenance.. they'll keep you there forever if they can.. it's disgusting.. The only good thing is it allows you to live a normal life without experiencing withdrawl for a while. But, when the day comes that you want off you're right back where you started! I know it helped me alot but you dont have to be on it for 2 years for it to help you.. do the 90 day detox, you can experience a normal life for that long and that should be enough to show u how great drug free life is. You have NO idea how bad I wish I did the 90 day detox but they conviently never informed me of it! I HIGHLY ADVISE to NOT go on maintenance. It's so hard slowly coming down, your mind screws with you mentally even if u only come down 3mgs. Its too hard for me. Personally, I wish I went into a detox instead. Who knows.. I may have came out and used. Its very hard to be in a detox for 5 days, come out and not go back to the lifestyle you were living for years. I really want to be off of methadone immmediately and am looking for a way to use soboxone to come off.. If anyone has any info. that can help me PLEASE let me know. Thank you! (Everything thing I've found is SO expensive!)

Methadone is a very good drug for treating opiate dependency. If you talk to professionals and listen to what they medically recommend it can be successful form of treatment. However, it is abused and often times people are not doing treatment the way it is recommended. If you walk away from any narcotic after extended use you will have withdraw. With Methadone and Suboxone it MUST be a gradual decrease, usually 2mg a week is what is recommended! My advice: ask a professional to get the accurate information.
