I recently had a five day stay @ Greenleaf in Valdosta, GA. Though I was scared stiff when I entered, it is one of the best blessings I've had in my life. No, everything was not perfect. But the overall stay has changed my life forever. Thank u to all the staff, as all of u assisted in my recovery. Thank u for giving me the courage to see life with new beautiful eyes. i WILL continue to recover, thanks to your help and the grace of God.

I read "A Childhood Taken away by a Mother and GRandfather". It was so right to the point. It was so helpful for me. Poor author but hooray for her.

crystal meth meeting              Reply to this Comment
Go to an NA meeting. I doubt you will find a meeting devoted exclusivel to crystal meth. If there are no NA (Narcotics Anony.) meetings, go to an AA meeting and say you have a desire to stop drinking if they give you a hard time about not being a drinker. Go and sit and listen and try to relate to what you hear. If you hear something you really disagree with, or that is not in your experience, just let it pass. You will hear stuff like that. But. There will be plenty that you can relate to - those are the things you should listen to, think about and those will help you stay clean. Good luck.

Look for a local Celebrate Recovery Ministry. It Meets usually twice a week and addresses issues that surround the addiction issues in our life.It is a great program and works if you really work it!!!!!!

    Crack              Reply to this Comment
I recently hae broken up with my boyfirend of 2 years.. He is addicted to crack cocaine, it is very bad. He has stolen from me and his family and friends NUMEROUS times. It hurts so bad... to think the man you want to marry and have childern with is not capable of these things. I love him very much.. he is a awsome person... but whenever he is smokin that crap he is a total 360. Its very sad. On top of him being all messed up.. My mother is addicted to meth. I am a recovering meth addict. I am pulling my life together... but the one thing i had to realize is that you can show them the right way.. but you cant make them take help. It is very hard being a 20 year old with these problems... but atleast i owe up to them.... I believe everyone deserves a chance... but you have to remember chances run out... there is only so much you can do until they run you into the ground..

What I loathed most about my mother              Reply to this Comment
What I loathed the most in my mother -- I would do anything for my mother, always hoping that she would show me some sort of affection. My mother never once hugged, kissed, or loved me. I just wished she would have put her arms around me and said “I love you.” It would never transpire. My mother played poker for money all of her life until she discovered the slot machines. She called me on the phone several times a month always wanting a ride to a casino. I would say yes. Maybe just maybe she would be nice to me. When we arrived at the casino my mother would hurry to a slot machine. My husband and I would grab a cup of coffee and head to the top deck where we would go outside and relax. We had no interest in gambling, after all I knew first hand how my mother’s gambling addiction destroyed my life. My mother would play the slot machines continuously and never get tired. When we asked her to leave she would always tell us to play the slots but we said no. After turning down her offer over and over, the day came when my mother put five dollars in a slot machine and told me to play for her - she had to go to the bathroom. I was hooked. I don’t know if it was the bright lights or the loud noise of the slot machines paying off that made me crave to play more. I soon became conscious of the fact that my mother was nice to me only when I was gambling with her. If I told her I had no money to gamble or that I had other things to do she would become furious and start ridiculing me. After a few years I realized that I was doing what I loathed the most in my mother - gambling with money which was needed for other things. I never knew until that moment what anguish my mother went through with her addiction. Was that the reason she was so mean toward me? I drive by a casino now and realize what gambling can do if not controlled. Today I keep busy with writing and gardening. I look forward to the visits from my four children, ten grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. When I face difficult challenges in my life I don't run to a casino. I might not be able to change things but I won't add more complexity to the circumstances. With a great deal of determination not to be like my mother, I now know how to control my gambling. The craving is finally gone. When someone wants me to go to a casino with them I can say no or maybe once in a while I will go. However I am truly thankful that I do not have to gamble. crack addiction              Reply to this Comment
Most insurance companies won't cover detox for cocaine in any form but will cover alcohol. Unfortunately alcohol must be in his system when he attempts to get some help from a detox. Their he would also address the crak addiction. It's sad but true

I am also 41. I lost my kids due to my addiction. My suggestion is to get to meetings. There you will find people who have been through what your going through and can help you stay clean One Day At A time. You never have to feel the way you do now. Just give meetings a try.

insurance wont pay              Reply to this Comment
I work in a detox unit and our company will offer the client a self pay option if they have private insurance and the facility doesnt partipate with that insurance. Most facilities will have you sign a financial agreement when coming in that says you will pay 50 dollars a month till its paid or sometimes they may require half your stay down. I work in a detox in the state of ct and it really goes by each indivuduals situation hope this was helpful
