Teen TherapyTeen Therapy
Many families make the decision to start teen therapy of one kind or another during their adolescence’s life. Sending your teenager to therapy does not necessarily mean that you have a “bad kid” or a juvenile delinquent! It’s tough being a teenager in today’s society. The temptations and choices are vast and sometimes a kid needs help sorting through his feelings, his morals and his goals for his life with some kind of guidance from a professional therapist. Adolescents who work with a therapist who specializes in working with teens have the advantage of knowing that there is a safe place for them to go and express their thoughts and feelings without being judged or ridiculed.
While it’s perfectly normal for a teenager to pull away from his parents, he or she still has need of adult guidance. During this time when your teen is challenging your judgment, your beliefs and your rules, you’ll find comfort knowing that a trained professional is helping your child wade through the maze of confusion that accompanies this time of life. Placing your adolescent in the care of a professional for teen therapy does not excuse you from continuing to try to get through to your teen. Continue to show interest in his or her life, without coming across as “interrogating them”. Your kids want your approval and respect, no matter what age they are, and no matter what they act like! What can your child expect in teen therapy? First of all, he or she can expect to be treated as the expert of his or her own life. Opinions can be expressed without judgment or criticism resulting. Teens working with a therapist will be able to better understand their problems (or perception of problems). If they’re struggling to figure out what they want out of life, teen therapy will be the place to sort it out. With a better understanding of themselves, teens will be equipped to deal with the challenges that each one faces on an average day. Teen therapy is a win-win situation. Not only will your teen greatly benefit, but you’ll find that you are reaping the rewards as well! |
reply to help Reply to this Comment I wish I was a trained professional, just so I could help you... I'm really sorry that I'm not. Just know that you're not alone. I mean, I'm looking up teen therapy, and I'm a teen, so obviously I need a little help lately too. Know that you will get through this, no matter what. Do what you feel is right, know that there are many who feel your pain, we can all get through sit together. love, -Bianca. teens and therapy Reply to this Comment Can at teenager at the age of 16 get therapy with out their parents knowing about it? you are strong Reply to this Comment Hi Kathy, I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. The fact that you have "taken it" so far says a lot about your personal strength and endurance. You are surely a strong woman. I would suggest that you seek someone older, your dad, grand parents, anyone who cares about you to help you find a therapist. do not be afraid or embarrassed to ask. there's no reason to. not everyone has same experiences. some have it easy, some have it tough. whatever life throws, we have to act accordingly. please continue to seek help. don't give up. ask for help. i promise ask, and you will receive. WHOA! Reply to this Comment All of you kids, PLEASE be careful about publishing your e-mail addresses and contact info on the web! There are people out there who take advantage of lonely teenagers. If you feel like you need help, try talking to your school counselor or see if you can get a referral from them. If you go to church you may have a youth pastor or other church leader who can help or refer you to someone. Also, search online for resources in your town. Most areas will have therapists and groups for depressed teens and for other emotional issues. You don't have to suffer through it alone. Don't Be Shy:) Reply to this Comment You shouldn't be shy. That's what they are for! If you need the help, you should go get it. They have people of all ages go in to them everyday so it isn't anything new to them!
