Therapy and Residential Treatment Services Offered
Detoxification- The general definition of detoxification is to remove poison or the effects of poison from a system. In substance abuse treatment the term is used in a similar manner; drugs or the effect of drugs are removed from the body. There are numerous detoxification programs, and each has a slightly different approach, but most follow a similar procedure.
Men- Research shows that men are given more opportunity than women to use drugs, but equal numbers of men and women are likely to begin drug use. Men use different types of drugs than women. Men are more likely to abuse alcohol, and marijuana.
Private health insurance- Securing private health insurance can be confusing, especially if you’re not covered by your employer or if the employer offers a number of options from which to choose. Determining which plans are best for you and/or your family is difficult.
Residential short-term treatment (30 days or less)- Substance abuse and other mental health disorders affect each person differently and in varying amounts. That’s why it’s necessary for professionals to offer several types of treatment programs to address the needs of different individuals with diverse problems.
Substance abuse treatment- Substance abuse treatment is often individualized to each patient, but there are a few steps that each patient needs to take to become drug free. The first of these steps in recognizing the problem. Denial used to be mistakenly believed to be part of the drug addiction symptoms, but recent research is showing it is not. People trying to help a person accept that they have a substance abuse problem need to show empathy, and respect.
Substance abuse treatment services- Substance abuse is seen by most physicians and mental health professionals as a long-term illness and so many substance abuse treatment services are designed to try and find the best way to help someone cope. The people that are considered to have substance use disorder are those who can not stop and whose use is compulsive. A person’s genetics, mental health, and stress levels all have a role in determining if a person has substance use disorder. Substance abuse actually changes the brain, and these changes remain in effect for a long time.
Women- Substance abuse among women is different than in men, and most often has multiple contributing factors, such as poverty, psychosocial, mental health, history of abuse and trauma, and involvement in abusive relationships. Because of these numerous factors that need to be addressed to help a woman become drug free, substance abuse centers specifically for women are becoming more prevalent, and existing substance abuse centers are changing their treatment approaches to better help women get rid of their addictions.

Is there really hope for an alcoholic? I just can't seem to quit no matter what I do. I have had DUI's, and I still drive while drinking. I have lost my family, I can't even function any more. I am afraid I will die if I do not quit today. Please help me.

I checked my husband in and this lady called Becky in admissions vaguely acknowledged me. She shook my husbands hand and his brothers hand and turned to get his paperwork to get admitted. I had my hand outstretched to introduce myself and she turned her back on me. I have been through a lot and really did not want to deal with Becky from Dallas Texas's rudeness. I did not say anything during the time for the sake of my husband but his brother did notice her treatment towards me. This is the first time in my time in the US that I have come across racism in Harmony House.

You can do it. You can get sober. I got clean in October of 2001 and have remained drug and alcohol free. It has not always been easy and I can't say "clean and serene" always fit, but my life has done a complete turnaround. I was homeless, in an unhappy and abusive relationship and felt hopeless. Over 6 1/2 years later, I am employable, I can face life on life's terms, I can feel my feelings and I have a relationship with a Higher Power. I was only promised freedom from active addiction, but I have been given so so much more. I have actual friends, a wonderful fiancee, a roof over my head, food in my belly and clean clothes in my dresser. No, I don't have everything I want, but I have everything I need. God provides. One of the best parts is I get to give back what has been so kindly given to me.
My suggestions is get involved in the 12-step fellowship you feel comfortable in, and follow any suggestions, I don't care how silly they seem. Get a sponsor, work the steps, read the literature, pray everyday, go to meetings, and get involved in service. This simple formula saved my life and countless other lives. You will be in my prayers.
