    Definitions of Treatment Services
ASL or other assistance for hearing impaired- Hearing-impaired individuals face many challenges in their lives. One of the biggest hurdles often confronted by this portion of the population is the inability to communicate with hearing individuals. This can be especially challenging when it comes to seeking therapy, especially in a world where a limited number of people in the mental health field have taken it upon themselves to learn how to communicate with the deaf and hearing-impaired.
Detoxification- The general definition of detoxification is to remove poison or the effects of poison from a system. In substance abuse treatment the term is used in a similar manner; drugs or the effect of drugs are removed from the body. There are numerous detoxification programs, and each has a slightly different approach, but most follow a similar procedure.
Hospital inpatient- Many options continue to be available for those suffering from substance abuse or other mental health problems. Choosing the correct treatment program can be one of the most important steps an individual will take in conquering their difficulties with drugs and/or alcohol. While some choose to attempt recovery at outpatient programs, through support groups, or at residential long- or short-term treatment facilities, others prefer the more traditional atmosphere of a hospital inpatient program.
Medicare- In the United States, politicians debated for decades on how to best provide a nationwide health insurance program for its elderly citizens. Though discussion began as early as 1912 and the first health insurance bill was introduced to congress in 1935, it wasn’t until 1965 that President Lyndon B. Johnson signed a bill to establish what we now know as Medicare.
Mix of mental health and substance abuse services- A study done in 2002 found that there were five million adults who had a serious mental illness, and had substance abuse problems. Almost 30 percent of all adults with serious mental health illnesses also use drugs. Other statistics show that 53 percent of substance abusers also have at least one mental illness.
Outpatient- Outpatient drug rehabilitation means that a person does not live in the facility for treatment, but come to the facility for classes, visits with specialists or group meetings. Outpatient drug rehabilitation centers are more long-term and patients can attend programs for as long as needed. A variety of techniques and program intensity levels are used to achieve this goal.
Partial hospitalization/day treatment- Partial hospitalization treatment is a more intense form of outpatient treatment. Most of the time patients live at home and go to treatment during the day. However the treatment sessions are usually longer than in outpatient treatment.
Persons with co-occurring mental and substance abuse disorders- Quite often, individuals suffering from substance abuse are also afflicted with some type of mental illness. In the mental health community, these simultaneously occurring illnesses have come to be known as co-occurring mental and substance abuse disorders.
Private health insurance- Securing private health insurance can be confusing, especially if you’re not covered by your employer or if the employer offers a number of options from which to choose. Determining which plans are best for you and/or your family is difficult.
Substance abuse treatment- Substance abuse treatment is often individualized to each patient, but there are a few steps that each patient needs to take to become drug free. The first of these steps in recognizing the problem. Denial used to be mistakenly believed to be part of the drug addiction symptoms, but recent research is showing it is not. People trying to help a person accept that they have a substance abuse problem need to show empathy, and respect.

SummitRidge Facility              Reply to this Comment
I attended the facility at SummitRidge in Winter of '06 and must let it be known that it was the worst experience of my life. Not only was the staff unpleasant, rude, and arrogant, but they were also not helpful in any way to a teenager who really does need guidance. Might I suggest that SummitRidge start giving their patients some COPEING SKILLS instead of ridiculing them, humiliating them, and above all making them suffer in a four wall closed in hell hole. I know this isnt the most professional or sincere way to express my experience I just wanted to leave a REAL comment from someone who actually attended the facility. I also plan on reporting the facility to any therapist or psychologist I meet to see how I can progress my complaint so that someone will go out to SummitRidge and REALLY look into the kind of facility it REALLY is!

I must say that Summit Ridge saved my life. I had no hope and wanted no future when I went to Summit Ridge. If you asked everyone around me they said I would not make it to my 20's because I was so far passed being able to get "help". But once I went to summit ridge I found hope, support, and was taught skills to stay away from the things that caused me to end up at a dead end road. I am now 24, I bought my first home when I was only 22, and just this May I graduated top of my class from GA state University. I got a degree in psychology and am going back to get my Masters. Not only did Summit Ridge and the people that work there help save my life, but they inspired me to help others.

Don't go here.              Reply to this Comment
I was put in inpatient here last week. The care was abysmal. I spent the first night sleepless and crying hysterically because they wouldn't give me anything to make me sleep since i hadn't seen a psychiatrist yet. I didn't see one until a full 24 hours later. I had to chase him down the next day and harass the nurses to even tell me who my case worker was. Then they changed it on me. There was a man in there before I left who threatened to kill everyone, and they let him mingle with the rest of the patients even though he would randomly start screaming for someone's death at the top of his lungs. The psychiatrist I saw recommended I go on disability leave, then refused to sign my papers. The hospital switched my doctor and she refused to sign my papers or do anything for me because 'she didn't know me.' I was lied to about when I was leaving, and so was everyone else. Most of them had been told multiple times they'd be leaving that day, only to be told later that they would have to stay two more days. They told me no one was ever in for more than a week, but one woman was in for a month when I got there. The psychiatrists aren't even there more than an hour or so a day, so they may not even see you at all unless you practically stalk them. The inpatient groups are useless because there are twenty or so people in them and they've all got different problems and no one can focus on anything. They don't tell you how much your insurance will cover until you're in there for a day at least, and then you find out how screwed you really are. Many patients claim to have been tricked into going here. They might put you in seclusion for no fault of your own. They check on everyone constantly, but if you're upset they pay no attention as long as you're alive. They don't care how you actually feel, and when you get in there, they don't tell you what's going on. It takes them hours to bring stuff someone dropped off for you back to you. HOURS. You're only allowed four hours of visitation a week, even though they encourage you to work with your family and friends to get better. The place itself is not nice; there's nothing pretty anywhere, everything is all yellow and olive green and hideous. They won't let you have coffee except at certain times of the day, and once it runs out, there won't be anymore. There's no hot water in the mornings. They'll leave the shower full of vomit overnight, so you can't take a shower. There is nothing redeeming about this place at all.
