I am just looking for support for children in the Newport area with ADHD. I need information on rights for my child. Newport Middle School has made my son's life a living hell and since my sister is the school system's social worker, I have been careful not to step on anyone's toes. At this point however I feel that this school has no reguard for my son's condition and they see it as a phantom diagnosis. Something that can be controlled. I have been accused of not supervising my son, and his grades are failing. When we had a conference I brought up his ADHD and nearly all of the teachers rolled their eyes at me. I feel helpless. My son has already been in trouble many times this year for defending himself (while the offender went free) and the latest is sweeping out the bus for 4 days for having candy, which is against the school policy, but the driver of the bus said it was ok until another kid tried to take the candy and it spilled all over the floor. Now my son has 4 days of sweeping the bus out or I don't know how may days of suspension off of the bus. What am I supposed to do? I feel that this garbage is a waste of my time, as well as my son's. I wish the officials were as concerned with why my son's grades are failing. No one seems to care!! HELP!!!
