    Definitions of Treatment Services
DUI/DWI offenders- Drunk driving is a serious offense and the consequences of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol are become quite severe. According to the state in which the offense is committed, DUI/DWI offenders can get off with just a warning, may lose their driver’s license, or might even serve time in prison.
Medicaid- The term Medicaid often evokes stares of bewilderment from many and is easily confused with other medical assistance services with similar names. Simply put, Medicaid is a program that pays for medical assistance for certain individuals and families with low incomes and resources.
Medicare- In the United States, politicians debated for decades on how to best provide a nationwide health insurance program for its elderly citizens. Though discussion began as early as 1912 and the first health insurance bill was introduced to congress in 1935, it wasn’t until 1965 that President Lyndon B. Johnson signed a bill to establish what we now know as Medicare.
Military insurance (e.g., VA, TRICARE)- The United States military has always assumed the important task of taking care of its own by providing military insurance for health care purposes for active-duty members as well as veterans. Through enrollment in these programs, some similar to private health insurance policies, members or former members of the armed forces are guaranteed low-cost medical care.
Mix of mental health and substance abuse services- A study done in 2002 found that there were five million adults who had a serious mental illness, and had substance abuse problems. Almost 30 percent of all adults with serious mental health illnesses also use drugs. Other statistics show that 53 percent of substance abusers also have at least one mental illness.
Outpatient- Outpatient drug rehabilitation means that a person does not live in the facility for treatment, but come to the facility for classes, visits with specialists or group meetings. Outpatient drug rehabilitation centers are more long-term and patients can attend programs for as long as needed. A variety of techniques and program intensity levels are used to achieve this goal.
Private health insurance- Securing private health insurance can be confusing, especially if you’re not covered by your employer or if the employer offers a number of options from which to choose. Determining which plans are best for you and/or your family is difficult.
Substance abuse treatment- Substance abuse treatment is often individualized to each patient, but there are a few steps that each patient needs to take to become drug free. The first of these steps in recognizing the problem. Denial used to be mistakenly believed to be part of the drug addiction symptoms, but recent research is showing it is not. People trying to help a person accept that they have a substance abuse problem need to show empathy, and respect.
Women- Substance abuse among women is different than in men, and most often has multiple contributing factors, such as poverty, psychosocial, mental health, history of abuse and trauma, and involvement in abusive relationships. Because of these numerous factors that need to be addressed to help a woman become drug free, substance abuse centers specifically for women are becoming more prevalent, and existing substance abuse centers are changing their treatment approaches to better help women get rid of their addictions.

Bi-Polar I              Reply to this Comment
For Michael M. & Chaz: Portulaca oleracea - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Purslane contains more Omega-3 fatty acids than any other leafy vegetable plant. Dimopoulos states that Purslane has .01mg/g of EPA ... Question for you ... after awhile (a month or two on 1200 mg of lithium last Fall), I develop polyuria which is eventually bad for the bladder ... right now I took 600 mg last night ... (so I could get Anna into some counseling -- which is more "wholistic" -- Anna has agreed and I took my meds); so the goal this week is to reduce it to 300 mg (that was the deal with Chaz on Friday -- but Western docs always go back on their word and threaten with hospital time). So we shall see. So, look into polyuria and I'll see what I can find out from my sources in New York, so far so good and the vitamin C does actually get rid of the cotton mouth -- hey my father always ate an orange in the morning, now I do too ... anyway, here are some attachments from the gal who practices oriental medicine here in Taos. (well I couldn't attach those here) My friend Lynn P.in New York: her specialty: nutrition. She massaged Kay's feet the day Kay died. She's also working with me on my "bi-polar; Type I, very mild" in conjunction with you. I'm also continuing to work with the gal of Oriental medicine here in Taos. Last night I took 600mg of lithium ... which always burns my left hand -- it's like pouring acid into a vat Chas has said he WISHES he could take lithium and suggests Thermopolis has enough lithium in the water to do ME good up there in Wyoming at the World's Largest Hot Springs -- where I have been going for years ... a lot of people retire there for the Water -- me, I'm not retired yet) Anyway, I think the fire is perhaps result of the electric shock I received last Fall, but we'll never know for sure, and my bi-polar appears to be slightly unipolar as the tremor in my hand last fall only affects my left side (but you knew that). Anyway, the burning in my hand seems to be helped with the Omega - III, which Lynn P. has been saying for months (but, we only had a tiny bit left from the Taos Herbal Company from Jackson's trials and it's very expensive and derived from Fish -- they are by the way suing the feds, because the Feds don't want people knowing how other "medicines" work). Anyway, purslane grows in our yard between the flagstone and the house; it's part of the lettuce family ... in a wet year it grows everywhere ... last night I ate a bunch of it and today I have no fire in my hand. And fortunately I put in drip two years ago. YAHOO! So this on my Dad up in Wyoming (just a little FYI) Hi Dad! How is your carpal Tunnel? Did the acupuncture work? I'm going for acupuncture on the 17th for my "bi-polar Type I". I'll let you know how it goes! She's swapping her acupuncture for a painting. Lucky Me. "It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood, a beautiful Day in the neighborhood, won't you be mine, could you be mine won't you be my niegborhood" ... Mr. Fred Rogers, circa 1935 -- 2003. He saved a lot of lives ... maybe now I have too ... How's the grass doing this year up in Lander? ... maybe I'll see you in August if things work out with the district (and I know they will). And I'll take a little dip in Thermop. Oriental doctor's orders are I need less time with my family ... "And so it goes" -- Kurt Vonnegut (yeah I wish I had coined it, as I use it all the time). So, I'm going to go back to writing my book which is what I do with my Sunday's now ... I've become a Sunday writer instead of a Sunday painter. It's all Good. Love Alan P.S.S. Lynn ... send back copies of emails sent yesterday, as I seem to have misplaced them and they are good material for my next book. :) ******* Confidentiality Notice: This information, including all attachments, is for the sole use of the intended recipient(s) and may contain confidential and privileged information.
